The Trip

I just arrived home after 12hrs of flight, why did it have to be a night flight. Lol. Brutal I tell you. Monday was my first day in Vegas; we spent the day walking around our Hotel. I need to tell you how big the hotels are in that city, Its hard to imagine because even in New York Hotels aren’t that big… Our hotel claims it has 3000 rooms in three different towers; they recently built an 18 million dollar pool. (This happens to be very useful, because it is hot out there during the day) The casino is quite big they are famous for their sport betting sections, I think there was over 16 HUGE screens in there (when I mean huge I mean HUGE). That night, we stopped at many casinos on the strip. You need to understand that Las Vegas Boulevard is about six lanes in both directions and the side walks are about 3 times the size that we have on St-Catherine. Everything is designed to be BIG and flashy. Lights flickering everywhere, more people then you can imagine, show’s playing in each casino’s. The Hotel we stayed at was the Las Vegas Hilton; it is on the North side of the strip. Most of the new BIG hotels are now located to the south side right beside the airport. Walking towards the strip the first hotels we in counted is the Riviera and Circus Circus hotel. The last one has a chapel in there, you can get married for 90$. It is nice they also have Rent-A-Tux shop right beside! American, they know how to do business. Afterwards the Wynn is impressive; I will attach a video of the screen in front of that hotel. A must see! The Mirage has a huge volcano in front of it and every few minutes it starts to erupt and hundreds of people watch the spectacle. Next The Paris casino has an exact replica of the Eiffel tower, just half the size. They even let you go on the top of the tower for a small fee, what a great idea. (You have to check the pictures.) New York, New York Hotel is unique in its genre; it has a Roller Coaster on the top of it. Fred and I were a little drunk at that point.. It was a very fun ride.. It’s weird when you do that in a city. We also stopped at hooters casino, other then the traditional restaurant and the girls.. There is nothing special. The MGM grand is HUGE and all green at night. It is a unique peace of art. Actually all these hotels are peaces of arts. It takes one hell of an architect and engineer to make one of those structures. Some hotel lot size can be 1km by 1km. I do not know if you can imagine how long it takes to walk a corner but it can easily take 15 minutes. When we arrived at 4am at the hotel, the Air Conditioning was making huge amount of noise. We had to call room service and they changed us rooms. The next day at 11 o’clock we were at the pool, swam a little and took it easy. We had to wake up at 2:15 am to go get our rental car to head out for the Grand Canyon. The last time I saw was 10:30. It is hard to fall asleep early with jetlag and all.

The Road Trip and Grand Canyon

3:00am Tuesday morning we rent a car at Dollar.com, the girl who gave us the car gave us a free upgrade.. I am not sure why but maybe because it was my b-day in a few days. We had a PT cruiser convertible. It was the first time of my life that I assisted at a sunrise in the desert. The colors were very nice and the air a little chilly. The roads are perfect, that is something we do not have here in Quebec. We arrived at the entrance of the North Rim of the Grand Canyon at 9am. We wanted to go see the Havasu Falls located at 10 miles from were we can park our car. The ride down is fun and very beautiful. Words cannot describe how nice it is to hike down the Grand Canyon. Actually a Camera cannot take pictures of the Grand Canyon, it is so big/magnificent no matter were you look you see it. Fred was using sandals to walk down the Grand Canyon. They started to hurt him and he injured his foot. Walking on it was unbearable to him; we had to spend the night in the Grand Canyon. We rented a room at a lodge in the village. It had two beds and no TV or phone. Our room was number 13; you can see Natives are not superstitious. At nightfall, the only thing we would, hear was crickets. It was so calm, no car noises.. I loved sleeping down there one hell of an experience. The next morning we took a Native Air Helicopter back to our car. Fred’s foot was a little inflated; it would be stupid to walk on it for no reason. Hence, the Helicopter, the ride was nice; I did not expect to be so deep down. When we were inside the Grand Canyon, we were actually inside an other huge whole. It just never ends. The view from the Air is amazing.

The way back
After such an experience, we decided to Stop at McDonald’s for “feel good food” I guess being stuck in the Grand Canyon without food makes you hungry. (We are men, we do not plan ahead). After all there events it was now Thursday. Once arrived back at the Hotel, car dropped off, it was time to drink a beer!  We drank a few beers at the Tempo lounge and then headed out for The Beach. It is a night club right beside our Hotel. We were tied and did not want to go out to far. Once there we end up talking to a girl who works there (but not that day), she was waiting for her friend to finish dancing. I craved home cook food and ended up making 4 steaks and Fries at the Girls house. After the late supper, she drove us back to the hotel (she lived right beside) and we went to bed at around 5:30 am.

The chilling section
At 10am the next day we were up because there was some “construction” in the hotel. We could hear a lot of noise from the room right above us. Apparently, they are renovating. We spend the day at the pool relaxing. That’s when my hatred for Barry Manilow started happening. They have huge pictures of him all over the hotel. They signed him up to play a few times a week!  He even has a memorabilia shop in the hotel. IT’S NUTS! Ok, back at the pool.. I read my book, tanned and swam. It was so nice and relaxing. Then we went to the buffet in the Casino and I eat a lot of good food. It’s not a crappy buffet like we have in Montreal. Afterwards we went to the strip, because of exhaustion we went to bed at 12. Saturday Fred and I decided to “mentally check out”. We spend that day at the pool; we did nothing but swim and relaxed. At night we decided to check out the Stratosphere but there was so many people on the trip and the roads we went back to the hotel early.

Sunday which is still Today for me right now, but it’s actually Monday 1:52pm in Montreal. We spent a little bit of time in the Casino, but mostly at the pool after 4:00pm we packed for our flight scheduled at 8pm for Denver, our connecting flight was for Washington at 11:58pm. We arrived at Washington Dallas international airport at 6:00am eastern time and had to wait until 8:20 for our One-hour flight back to Montreal. I am home exhausted but I had an amazing trip. Fred is a great travel companion and a lot funny events happened during those days.

In Las Vegas!!

October 3rd, 2006

I will make this quick, i am paying 7.50$ for 15 minutes. This means you wont see me post often while in vegas.

The plane ride was long and we missed our connecting flight from denver to las vegas. We arrived at our hotel at midnight that day without our bags… yes they lost them on the way here… good thing they found them and we received them the next day. Then we had a beer and went to bed. The next day we went on the strip and had a blast. Did you know you are allowed to drink in the street in Vegas? This is heaven… I walked around with my beer in my hand walking in all the casino’s. We went to the Paris las vegas and went up the replica of the Effiel tower. The view was amazing wait till you see the pictures. Afterwards we went to New york, NEw york thew hotel… that was great.. we went to the COyoty Ugly bar and took more pictures there.. its one hell of a club that i can tell you. Then we did a ride on the roof top of the hotel. Its a huge ride just like at La Ronde.. cost 12.50$ quite expensive…

Its 4pm here in vegas and i need to go to bed early.. i am getting up at 3am to rent a car to go to the Grand Canyon.. we have the car for 24hrs.. this said i am going to drive a lot in 1 day to see that whole in the ground…

Well this is all the time i have… wow, 7.50$ gone quite fast.. lol

Las Vegas here I come!

October 1st, 2006

It is Sunday morning I just packed my bags (almost done) and I am waiting for Fred. I am on my way to Las Vegas. This trip is going to be awsome; we are going to stay at the Las Vegas Hilton for 8 days and will be spending two days in the Grand Canyon! :)

I think our hotel will have an internet cafe, expect pictures and story about Vegas. Wish me luck!

Cycling from Montreal to St-Hyacinthe

September 10th, 2006

I just arrived back home from my wicked bike ride to St-Hyacinthe and it is a little farther then I expected it. Before leaving Yanik and I drank a special protein shake that has all the necessary proteins and minerals, it tastes bad so we mixed it with ice cream and water. We left at 11:11am this Saturday; we were not sure how to get off the island so we took the metro all the way to Longueuil metro station. It was raining and cold and Yanik and I were in shorts and T-shirt (you will see on the pictures) we had to find boulevard Taschereau to get on the 116. We ended up getting lost trying to find Tashereau Boulevard and stopped at a gas station for directions. Once on the boulevard we head to the 116 also called Sir Wilfred Laurier Boulevard. Once there we took the wrong direction and headed back to Montreal via Victoria Bridge, we only realized we were there at the last minute because it was raining and it was very foggy. We checked our map and realized we took a wrong turn. That small mistake cost us 7km.

Once on the right direction we headed towards St-Bruno…. The first 20km are tricky because that road is a like a highway that where the speed limit is 90km. A few people honked at us to cheer the fact we were cycling in the rain and the cold in shorts and T-shirts. A little bit before St-Bruno (where the 30 interchanges with the 116 east) the Boulevard changes a little bit and becomes two lanes. Each time we saw at sign that gave us the remaining KM, we stopped and took a picture. The scenery of the mount St-Bruno and St-Hilaire is quite nice…

Once at St-Hyacinthe we had to try to find our hotel. We made reservation for an executive room at “Hotel des Seigneurs”. The supper was amazing; the chef in the hotel restaurant was good. After supper, we had a few beers at the nightclub in the hotel. The number one club in St-Hyacinthe happens to be in that hotel. When 1am appeared on my cell phone, my bed called and I listened.

The next morning I woke up at 10am, we went for breakfast, had our shake and took our bikes. I was so surprised to discover my “posterior” was not hurting that much and my legs felt strong. We left the hotel at 12pm and headed back to Montreal. This time it was a lot nicer, the weather was warm, it was not raining and the wind was in our back. After St-Bruno I the 116, it was getting very busy and we wanted to see something else then a long road. We took Longueuil exit and found our way to Jacque-Cartier Bridge. We found a “short-cut” to the entrance and went on the bridge, we took nice pictures and I convinced Yanik to go down on “Ile Sainte-Helene” and use the bike roads all the way to Champlain bridge were we can cross to Nun’s island and then Verdun.. My home…

Arrived in my Kitchen when the clock displayed 5:58pm. It took us less time coming back then going. I fell great; it is so nice to do 150km of cycling in a weekend. I biked for over 13hrs in 2 days, which is an average of 15.5km/hr if you take into consideration a few stops that we did. I cannot wait for next summer I am going to do this again a few times, I am sure i can do better. My “bottoms” hurts a little bit and my legs are ok, going up stairs hurt a little bit. I am looking forward to go to bed. Hope you guys had an interesting weekend too.

You can see all the weekends picture here.

Saturday morning, ready for a long bike ride!

September 9th, 2006

I am really exited, I am about to leave for St-Hyacinte by bike. I am not sure how or when i will arrive but its going to be a FUN and LONG ride of bike…

I just finished eating breakfast and I am on my way… yay!

Cycling to st-hyacinte with Yanik!

September 8th, 2006

Interesting event happening this weekend I am going to St-Hyacinte by bike. It is about 120Km ride to go and an other 120km to come back! It should be interesting… I will let you know how that goes :)

I can cook! What a suprise! Las Vegas here I come!

September 6th, 2006

This post is by far the weirdest you will ever see. The reason is simple I am going to talk about my cooking knowledge and expertise. If you read my blog, you know I have no cooking skills and that I prefer to go eat at the restaurant rather then cooking the food myself. Well I have a few things to let you “people” know… I can cook and I can do it pretty well… This weekend was my revelation on my cooking skills.

Saturday I spent part of the day at my friend Denis baby shower. My friends are starting to procreate… it is a very interesting fact; it is also a normal process of life. It shows to me that I am extremely far from being ready for kids; actually, I do not know if I even want kids. I am going to take my time to make any, (if any) remember they are a gift for life and life is long…

This is where it gets interesting, Sunday we (Mohamed and I) had a few friends over… some of them ended up staying for supper. Who was in charge? ME… I cooked four steaks in one pan; I had veggie patties in the other pan, fries in the oven and vegetables in my wok. I was cooking all that at the same time… Not only nothing burned but the food was excellent. I was impressed at myself; I can cook and coordinate things. This coincides with the fact I have not been in a restaurant for 4 days! That is my record in the last 7 years of my life and its worth mentioning.

I have come to realize that eating at home requires a lot more work then eating out all the time. I had to take the following steps to make this unprecedented event possible.

1- When doing your groceries you need to plan what you will be eating. Breakfast, Lunch and Supper.

2- Think about the leftover’s you might have from your main meals. They can be used to Lunches.

3- When buying groceries make sure you cook your UN frozen meat right away or else freeze it. This might seem obvious for many women out there… but for a young man learning… well its part of the learning curb.

I am fully aware I still have a lot of learning to do. For example, I do not even know how to read most of the information in a cooking book. Let’s not even talk about all the tools that one need to buy. But that’s ok.. For now, I can cook good and healthy meals to keep myself alive. Soon I will be working on the presentation and all those possible spices you can add to make the taste even better.

Oh! I almost forgot I BOOKED MY TRIP TO VEGAS! Yes, I am going to Las Vegas from October 1st until the 9th. It is going to be an amazing trip with Fred. I cannot wait to see the Grand Canyon! Will keep you posted.

New trip…

August 31st, 2006

I have been a little slow to post anything… The only interesting fact in my life right now is Vegas. I am going to Las Vegas in 1 month or so. More details coming soon…
